Floor protection During Construction : Strategies You Need To Know
My neighbour renovated her flat last winter. She argued with the tile shop for a week over one shade of grey. But when the workers arrived, nobody asked what they’d be walking on.
A Floor Lesson From a Friend
Ten days later, her hallway had scratches
all over it. A white ring of paint sat on the living room floor. She still
points at it whenever someone visits.
Is It Worth the Effort?
Yes, it is. Fixing a broken floor costs a
lot of money. On a busy work site, floors get scratched, dented, and stained
very fast. But covering them is cheap. If you spend a few hundred rupees on floor protection during construction, you may save thousands later.
Where Should You Start?
Watch the workers for a day. Most of them
walk the same way. They go from the front door straight to the room where they
are working. That path gets hurt the most. So cover it first. After that, cover
the other rooms.
Does Every Room Need the Same Cover?
No. Every room has its own weak spot, so a single roll of film won’t do the job.
In the living room, wooden and laminate floors are the ones to worry about. They scratch if you look at them wrong, and water leaves marks. Cover the whole floor. Then add boards in the spots where sofas, ladders, or toolboxes will be dragged across.
The kitchen is messier. You’ll have grease, spills, and heavy appliances going in and out. Strong sheeting works well here. Just stop it a little before the sink, because water can pool under the cover and sit there for days.
Bathroom tiles look tough, but they crack when something heavy lands on them. A dropped drill is enough. Lay a stiff board over the tiles and the problem mostly goes away.
Then there are the stairs, which nearly everyone forgets. The edges chip easily. Cover each step, and tape the sheet down firmly, because a loose sheet on a staircase is how people get hurt.
Bedrooms are the easy ones. Hardly anyone
walks through them during the work, so a plain adhesive film is usually plenty.
